ESL Graduation Spring 2010

ABC Learn, Inc. recently finished our third semester of Adult ESL classes and celebrated with our student graduation. We had 27 students who graduated from the program and 3 students who participated in our advanced conversation class. We're so proud of our students and glad that we could celebrate their success with their families and friends. This semester, our graduation was so large that we had to find a bigger space! Fortunately, the staff at San Fernando Recreation Park was gracious enough to let us rent a room. Due to their generosity and the generosity of Supervisor Yaraslovsky’s office-- who provided certificates for all our students-- our graduation was a huge success!

dd’s DISCOUNTS® LAUNCHES THE SECOND ANNUAL YOUTH LITERACY FUNDRAISER IN TIME FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL

dd’s DISCOUNTS and First Book Partner to Provide New Books to Kids in Need
in Local Communities

Pleasanton, Calif. – August 9, 2010 – Ross Stores, Inc., the nation’s second largest off-price retailer, today announced that dd’s DISCOUNTS will conduct its second annual in-store donation drive in support of youth literacy efforts during the back-to-school season. dd’s DISCOUNTS is partnering with the award-winning nonprofit organization First Book® to place brand new books into the hands of children who need them most.

“It’s more important than ever to support school children in our local communities and help them experience the joy of reading their very own books,” said Alma Mercado, vice president of Stores, dd’s DISCOUNTS. “We’re excited to partner again with First Book to help raise funds that will support the communities we serve.”

Between August 14 and September 7, 2010, dd’s DISCOUNTS’ customers can make a donation at 57 store locations in California, Texas, Florida, Nevada and Arizona. A $2.00 donation, which can be made at store registers, will provide a brand new book to a child in the local community. dd’s DISCOUNTS will match donations, up to $25,000. For a list of dd’s DISCOUNTS locations, visit www.ddsdiscounts.com.

All funds raised will directly support youth literacy efforts in the surrounding areas of dd’s DISCOUNTS stores. First Book’s relationships with youth education programs throughout the U.S. help ensure that the funds raised in each store support the local community and provide wonderful new books to children in need.

“We’re delighted to continue our partnership with dd’s DISCOUNTS to provide even more programs in dd’s DISCOUNTS’ communities with on-going access to new books. This donation drive will empower local educators with a choice of new, high-quality and age-appropriate books for the children they serve,” said Kyle Zimmer, President and CEO of First Book.
